In October 2012, the DOMAINfest conference franchise was renamed to Webfest Global. Despite the name change, the mission remains the same… to help the domain industry evolve and grow by providing domain investors and publishers with unbeatable networking and learning opportunities.
The new name is symbolic of the how the domain industry has changed. Over the last few years, domain investors, publishers and service providers within the domain industry have had to expand their skills, knowledge and capabilities into a wide range of web and mobile marketing disciplines. This change was spurred in large part by parking revenue trends that were not meeting expectations.
Over this same period of time, DomainSponsor, the organizer of DOMAINfest events, specifically shifted the agenda at its conferences each year to be in lockstep with the changing needs of its domain industry audience. A sizable portion of each conference agenda was always allocated to domaining-related topics, but more and more of the content and speakers were focused on providing attendees with tips and insights related to the latest web and mobile marketing trends.
The shifting focus of the DOMAINfest agendas has produced widespread praise each year from attendees who were eager to learn how to take advantage of new revenue generating opportunities.
Since DOMAINfest was no longer a conference focused only on domaining, it made sense to change the name to Webfest Global. In so doing, the new name mirrors the paradigm shift already happening within the domain industry, which involves looking beyond traditional industry boundaries for the ideas, technology and talent needed to maximize growth.
Webfest Global 2013 marks the 7th annual conference in the franchise’s history. It all started in 2006 with a small group of 25 domain investors getting together for networking, idea sharing and fun in Barcelona, Spain. It is now a 3-day conference attracting over 600 domain investors, publishers and online marketers from 25+ countries. The conference has also featured keynote speakers such as Biz Stone (Twitter), Bob Parsons (Go Daddy), Tony Hsieh (Zappos) and Steve Wozniak (Apple).
